Local scholarship deadline approaching
The deadline for applying for both new scholarships and renewing previous awards through the Grays Harbor Community Foundation is this week.
“The deadline is quickly approaching, but there’s still time to apply for both New and Renewal Scholarship awards.” says Program Officer Cassie Lentz.
Last year the Community Foundation received over 400 applications and awarded 265 yearly scholarships ranging from $1,000 to over $6,000. “This year we are pleased to be able to award even more scholarships, and have added many new Scholarship opportunities,” Lentz added.
This year also marks the first time two new awards are available: The Dr. John F. and Ella Mae Daly Memorial Scholarship supports students pursuing graduate work in Dental School, and the Dr. Scott A. Weatherwax Memorial University of Puget Sound Scholarship is offering $20,000 per year in funding for a student attending UPS.
Scholarships are available to students who graduated from a Grays Harbor or Pacific County school and are residents of the counties. Some of the scholarships were established for students graduating from a particular school, attending a particular college, or for a particular field of study, but many are limited only by a few general requirements.
Lentz says that the Community Foundation broadened its horizons of support a few years ago by offering vocational scholarships designed for students pursuing something other than a traditional four-year degree, such as culinary and automotive programs.
There is just one application to be considered for all GHCF Scholarships.
