Westport will be marijuana business free for 6 months
The Westport City Council passed two separate moratoriums at their meeting last night.
The council had a mid meeting executive session and after it was over, they brought forward and passed two ordinances that will be effective immediately.
They set a moratorium on the production, processing, and retail of marijuana within the city, and a moratorium on medicinal marijuana collective gardens .
City Attorney Wayne Hagen says the reason was so they could have more time to explore their options.
With the exception of Councilman Rob Bearden who was absent, both passed unanimously and public hearings on the subjects will be at the council meeting on April 28th.
The moratoriums are in place for six months.
This month, the first licenses for recreational marijuana businesses were issued.
