Cosmopolis Fire Department burn vacant home

March 17, 2014

The vacant yellow house at the entrance to Cosmopolis is no more.

The building, purchased by D4 Sports/Peterbilt and donated to the Cosmopolis Fire Department for training, had been used for 8 months to hold small search and rescue exercises and fires until Sunday when it was burned to the ground.

Fire Chief Al Burrows said that the final controlled burn had been held back due to concerns with air quality and the proximity to power lines, but after getting final approval was used as a full scale fire test for the volunteer fire department.

According to Burrows, even though the home is vacant, when they first began operations on Sunday they saw the only resident of the home, a cat with collar and tags, jump out of a back window and enter the woods safely.
