Hoquiam Drug Take Back Day has record turnout
The Hoquiam Police Department held their 8th Drug Date Back Day over the weekend, and according to Police Chief Jeff Myers, it was their largest yet.
During the four hour event on Saturday, a total of 98 citizens came to the police station to get rid of over 312 lbs of unneeded or expired medications.
The 312 pounds filled eight boxes that will be shipped to the DEA for incineration.
According to Chief Myers, “By turning in this medication at this free event, citizens were able to safely dispose of unwanted drugs; safe disposal prevents medications from getting into the hands of children, drug abusers and also keeps these chemicals out of the environment.”
The largest Drug Take Back Day before this weekend was in October of last year when 166 lbs were dropped off.
