Scholarships available for local college students

May 1, 2014

Current Grays Harbor college and graduate school students have an opportunity to receive extra assistance through the E. K. and Lillian F. Bishop Foundation scholarships.

Grays Harbor College tells KXRO that applications are now available through the on-line scholarship application program.

Started nearly 25 years ago by the Bishop Foundation, this scholarship fund is designated for students in their third or fourth years of accredited four-year college or universities, as well as for students in their first two years of accredited graduate schools.

To qualify, applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (as of June 25) and reside in Grays Harbor. Undergraduate applicants must be 22 years of age or younger as of June 25 in the year when the application is submitted; graduate applicants must be 24 years of age or younger. In previous years, undergraduates were eligible to receive as much as $3,000 per year, and graduate students could receive as much as $5,000. Awards go directly to the student’s college for tuition, room, board and other fines.

Applications must be submitted no later than July 9 and recipients will be announced by early August.

The program is located at http://www.ghc.edu/bishopscholarship, through Grays Harbor College’s website.

Information about the program is available by contacting Eric Potts at (360) 538-4121.
