Raymond man tries to escape police by jumping into Willapa River

May 7, 2014

Raymond Police arrested a suspect after a chase, with help from local businesses.

RPD got a request from the Department of Corrections to arrest 29 year old Timothy Clifford, wanted on multiple warrants and for escaping custody. They were told he was last seen on Commercial St. in town. As soon as police arrived, the suspect fled on foot.

Officers began searching the area, getting many tips from citizens, until he was found hiding under the Pitchwood. Employees chased the man until he fled onto the Weyerhaeuser sawmill. When officers began to catch up to the man, he jumped into the Willapa River.

Shortly thereafter, the 29 year old swam back to shore and was arrested and booked into the Pacific County Jail.

Raymond Police tell KXRO that they would like to thank the many citizens who assisted during this call, saying that “it was this teamwork that allowed us to capture this suspect safely.”

South Bend Police, the Department of Corrections, and the Pacific County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the chase.
