Hoquiam arrest finds possible stolen gun and methamphetamine

May 16, 2014

Hoquiam Police made an arrest this week that recovered a stolen gun.

Officers found a car in the 2100 block alley between Simpson and Sumner Avenue earlier this week as they were looking for a 28-year old Hoquiam man wanted on an outstanding felony probation warrant from the Department of Corrections. The suspect was last seen running down the alley.

Thinking the suspect was hiding inside the car, they came up to the windows and found a man and woman lying in the back seats, and both to be passed-out.

Officers recognized the man as a 29-year old Aberdeen man, who also had a felony probation warrant from the Department of Corrections. When the officers knocked on the window, both of the people inside woke up shocked to see the police.

As officers spoke with the 2 residents, the 29-year old woman from Central Park told officers that a purse inside the car was not hers, and the man denied having a warrant. The man, according to police, tried several times to reach toward a black bag nearby.

After reviewing booking photos and tattoo information, officers confirmed that the man did have an outstanding warrant, and arrested him both for the felony and for providing false information.

As the man was being placed into the patrol car, officers saw a handgun inside the bag he was reaching for. When the officers found the gun, the man tried to escape and ran a very short distance before being tackled and subdued.

Officers impounded the vehicle and applied for a search warrant to recover the 9 mm pistol. In addition to the felony probation warrant, the Aberdeen man is a convicted felon and cannot possess a firearm.

The next day, officers recovered the handgun, making a possible match to one of five firearms stolen in an Aberdeen burglary earlier this month. Officers also recovered suspected methamphetamine from the purse.
