Local retail sales increase in 2013
Local retail sales increased in 2013, up 3.14% in Grays Harbor and 14.23% in Pacific County.
Taxable retail sales statewide increased 7.4% to $117.1 billion during 2013 compared to 2012, according to the Washington State Department of Revenue.
Locally, Aberdeen sales increased 4.54% overall with an extra $13 million in sales, increasing to over $381 million. Hoquiam sales decreased in 2013, 2.54% with a loss of $1.6 million for the year compared to 2012. Ocean Shores saw the largest change for local cities, with an almost $5 million increase, showing a 6.42% increase.
Across Washington, retail trade, a subset of all sales that excludes non-retail sectors such as construction and services, rose 6.4% to $53.7 billion.
New and used car sales rose 12.1 percent to $10 billion while E-commerce and mail order went up 23.6% to $1.7 billion
The construction industry saw large gains as well, with an overall increase of 15.8% to $19.3 billion. Building construction drove most of those gains, with a 17.1 percent increase over 2012 taxable sales.
