Hoquiam’s East Side fire station taking shape

June 19, 2014

Work continues this week in Hoquiam on the construction of the new East Side Fire Station on Ontario Street near the YMCA of Grays Harbor.

The project is being funded with a $900,000 Community Development Block Grant from the Washington State Department of Commerce. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Hoquiam Mayor Jack Durney said, “As the recent issues with the aging Simpson Avenue Bridge have proven, there must be a fire/ambulance presence on the east side of the Hoquiam River. “

Construction began last week, but residents may have been hearing the pile driving that began on Monday.
