New Westport processing and cold storage facility could create 90 local jobs

June 19, 2014

Long-time Port tenant Washington Crab Producers, a subsidiary of Pacific Seafood, is nearing completion of a 9,000 square-foot processing and cold storage addition to its Westport facility.

The multi-million dollar investment is expected to create an additional 90 jobs related to the processing and storage of shrimp.

The expansion will include modernized, state of art equipment for processing as well as additional cold storage. JH Kelly is the general contractor on the project and has employed approximately 40 union laborers, carpenters, millwrights, iron workers and electricians during construction.

“We are thrilled Washington Crab continues to grow their business and create jobs for the Westport community. Investments like this will ensure Westport remains the number one seafood landing port in the state”, commented Commissioner Jack Thompson. “Both the Port and Washington Crab greatly appreciate the City of Westport’s support and cooperation throughout the expansion process.”

The expansion is expected to be complete by mid-July.

The 9,000 square-foot state-of-the-art processing and cold storage addition to Washington Crab Producers is under construction adjacent to their existing facility at the Westport Marina.
