Grays Harbor Radio- Delivering Information, Entertainment and Results!
Gray’s Harbor Radio Group’s flagship station, KXRO, first went on the air May 28, 1928, during the Prohibition. Started by Seattle, Wash. police officer Roy Olmsted, who had a side business as a rum-runner, the station was used to signal runners when it was safe to transport their “product”. KXRO continues it’s community broadcasting 80 years later with Grays Harbor’s only award winning radio news team. Plus, KXRO is the only radio station in Grays Harbor to ever be nominated for Excellence In Community Broadcasting by the National Association Of Broadcasters…two years in a row!
The next station in the group’s lineup was born in 1971 when Dale Gunderson started KDUX in Ocean Shores, Wash., with a “beautiful music” format. KDUX was moved to Aberdeen and became a rock station in the late 1970s. It continues it’s success as a the dominate Classic Rock format today.
The two stations were purchased by Pioneer Broadcasting, who operated KXRO as an adult contemporary station and KDUX as a rock station for several years until their purchase by Morris Communications in December 1998. KXRO now serves as the group’s news and talk station.
Morris Communications added KIX 95.3 (KXXK), “The Harbor’s New Country station,” and KWOK, ESPN Sports Radio 1490 in April 2001, establishing Gray’s Harbor Radio Group as the entity it is today. KIX is the areas only local Country station providing the The Harbor’s New Country with Live and Local personalities.
We live and work in Grays Harbor and Pacific County…and we love it!
