Grays Harbor Community Foundation awards $24 thousand in grants

July 30, 2012

The Grays Harbor Community Foundation says they invested almost $24 thousand through grants in the third quarter of 2012.

“We know times are still tough for non-profits and we are proud that all of these organizations are continuing to do amazing work right here in our community every day,” said Cassie Lentz, the Program Officer at the Foundation.

The organizations funded through the grants program this quarter include Harbor Art Guild for Solo Artist Shows, Montesano School District for Accelerated Reader Tests and Books at Beacon Elementary, Aberdeen School District for an upgrade to AJ West Playground Equipment, and Our Aberdeen for Restoration and Replacement of Historic Murals.

Dick Warren, Grants Committee Chair for the Foundation said “We had an interesting mix of requests, but all those that we funded had a solid plan and will ensure broad community benefit for citizens and visitors alike.” Warren said. “I am continually surprised and intrigued by the projects being taken on here in Grays Harbor.”

The Grays Harbor Community Foundation was also able to award $30,000 to four After School Programs through a designated fund set up specifically for that benefit. Harbor After School for its Elma Elementary and McCleary School sites, Hoquiam School District for its “Hoquiam’s BEST After School Program” at Emerson Elementary, Cosmopolis School for Science and Technology based After School Program, and Montesano Community Outreach for its After School Program at Simpson Elementary will all receive funding.

The Grays Harbor Community Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization.
