Wild Olympics still a heated topic

July 15, 2013

The Wild Olympics debate has continued locally.

Following the announcement by the Grays Harbor Wild Olympic Campaign that 84 local businesses support the legislation, the opponents to the measure have responded.

After the list of local supporters was released, at least one local business has come out to say that they do not support, and are not aware how they got onto the list.

Supporters of the measure recently sent a letter to Senator Patty Murray and Congressman Derek Kilmer, urging the reintroduction of The Wild Olympics Wilderness & Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. In February, Representatives Kevin Van De Wege and Dean Takko, as well as Senator Brian Hatfield, sent a letter to Kilmer asking that he does not move forward with the legislation. Over the past few years, they say that they have met with several groups that are not in support of its passage.

Senator Patty Murray said in February that she plans to reintroduce the legislation that was first introduced in June of last year following 3 years of discussion.
